The occasion for the event is the publication of the Second Report on the Situation of the German Language entitled “Vielfalt und Einheit der deutschen Sprache” (Diversity and Unity of the German language), published by the German Academy of Language and Literature and the Union of German Academies of Sciences and Humanities in September 2017.
The reports provide scientifically sound information on central issues of the current language debate. The first report was published in 2013 under the title “Reichtum und Armut der deutschen Sprache” (Wealth and Poverty of the German Language) on the subjects of vocabulary, Anglicisms, inflection and nominal style. Both reports were funded by the Fritz Thyssen Foundation.
