As numerous as the famed German journeys to Italy by figures ranging from Goethe and Karl Philipp Moritz to Wilhelm von Humboldt and Ferdinand Gregorovius, their writings and those of their contemporaries are just as diverse. To this day, their reports have lost none of their lustre.
