LIGHT above land. Danish poetry from the Middle Ages to the present day

The ties between Denmark and Germany were already close in the past - but an anthology of the entire Danish poetry in German has been missing to this day. Peter Urban-Halle and Henning Vangsgaard make us comprehensive in their bilingual collection with a much too unknown world known and with one of the oldest and richest traditions in European literature: a great journey of discovery to the north.

The anthology will be presented with Danish poets and musicians (see right column).

Ursula Andkjaer Olsen

Ursula Andkjær Olsen (* 1970) is a poet and musician. Since her debut in 2000 she has published eight volumes of poetry, several chamber operas, a cabaret concert and a play. Together with her sister Julie Andkjær Olsen she also designed the poetry app "Jeg pynter mig" (“I get dressed”). In addition to numerous other awards she received the Nordic Council Music Price (2008), the Otto Gelsted Prize of the Danish Academy (2010) and the Montana Literary Award (2012).

Lone Hørslev

(* 1974) is a poet, novelist and songwriter. She made her debut in 2001 with the poetry collection „Tak“ and has since then published ten books and written songs for seven albums with different bands. She graduated from The Danish Writing School in 2001 and has a bachelor's degree in Danish literature. She has received several national literature awards. (Denmark)

Federico Italiano

(* 1976 in Italy) is a poet, translator, publisher, essayist, literary critic and editor. He works as senior researcher at the Österreichische Akademie der Wissenschaften in Vienna and teaches general and comparative literature at the University of Munich (LMU). Together with his German colleague Jan Wagner, he is editor of the anthology GRAND TOUR. A VOYAGE THROUGH THE YOUNG EUROPEAN POETRY (2019). (Italy)

Pia Tafdrup

(* 1952) has published 18 collections of poetry, latest THE SIGHT OF LIGHT (2018). Her poems are translated into more than 30 languages She is member of The Danish Academy and has received the Nordic Council's Literature Prize 1999 and The Nordic Prize 2006 from The Swedish Academy. (Denmark)

Søren Ulrik Thomsen

(*1956) is a poet and essayist and a member of The Danish Academy of Letters. He is author of several poetry collections and collections of essays. Apart from his work with poetry and essays, he is performing his poetry with music in the group Det Glemte Kvarter, and together with Jokum Rohde he has done a photobook on the vanishing Copenhagen København Con Amore. His work has been awarded several important national awards and has been translated many times. (Denmark)

Peter Urban-Halle

(* 1951), literary critic for Deutschlandfunk Kultur, FAZ, NZZ and Berliner Zeitung, has done numerous translations mainly from Danish. He has received several awards, including the German Youth Literature Prize in 2000 and the Danish Translator Prize in 2013. He is co-editor of the first comprehensive anthology with Danish poems in German translation, which will be published by Hanser Verlag in 2020. (Germany)

Jan Wagner

(* 1971) is a poet, translator of English poetry, essayist and critic. He received numerous scholarships and awards for his work, most recently the Georg Büchner Prize (2017). Together with his Italian colleague Federico Italiano, he is editor of the anthology GRAND TOUR. A VOYAGE THROUGH THE YOUNG EUROPEAN POETRY (2019). Jan Wagner is a member of the Deutsche Akademie für Sprache und Dichtung and other academies and lives in Berlin. (Germany)
