Immediately after the "Sarajevo Debate on Europe" the German Academy for Language and Literature will hold its spring conference there. The Academy's members include important authors writing in the German language as well as philologists and scientists from various disciplines.
Each spring the Academy holds its conference in a specially selected city; this year it will be Sarajevo. The Academy avails itself of the invitation extended by one of its members, Dzvezad Karahasan (elected in 2013), to get to know the city and to learn more about Bosnia and Herzegovina, their past and present and especially their literature.
The conference program includes authors' readings, a discussion about Orient and Occident, a panel about flight, exile and the return to an alien homeland. The presentation of two of the Academy's awards will conclude the conference - the Johann Heinrich Voss Prize for translation will go to Renate Schmidgall for her translations from Polish into German; the Friedrich Gundolf Prize for the dissemination of German culture abroad to the Hungarian writer and translator László Márton.
